1000 hooded Bhagwan Parsavanath Temple

An interesting place not known to many is the 12th century Sahasrapani Parsvanath temple complex, located adjacent to the Bijapur jail. As the name suggests, the deity Parsvanath has 1,000 hoods, and milk poured on one hood gets distributed equally to the others.

This ancient temple is dedicated to Bhagwan Parsvanath at darga. This temple has recently been dug out.

BEAUTY OF THE TEMPLE :

This temple came to knowledge just before 100 Years. The principal deity Lord Parsvanath’s idol was found below ash that is very attractive. The Idol is really miraculous. Its specialty is that while we drop milk or water in one serpent hood it comes out through all the mouths and thus whole idol gets showered. This idol is 5 feet in height with cross legged seating posture, Black in color.

A Choubeesee is also here 3 feet in height with principal deity Bhagwan Parsvanath. The Coubisi is 90cms high and is made of marble. In another room an idol of Bhagwan Parsavanath, Black in color and one of Lord Mahaveer 5 feet in height Black in color, both in cross legged seating posture (padmasam) are installed and again very attractive. All the idols belong to 10th, 14th & 15th century. The puja is conducted at these temples during 9 AM to 10 AM since there is no local Jain Family in the village.

How to reach :
Darga village is about 3 Kms from the town. The way to Darga is from Mahatma Gandhi chowk to Azad road- Chandrapuri road. From chandrapuri road, one reach to Mugalsi Agsi fort and about one Kms from here is the Jail and from there, the village of darga is about 1 km.

INNOVATIVE FILM CITY

Charges on the Higher Side

Innovative Film city is about 40 kms from Bangalore.

As soon you reach the Innovative Film city, the Bollywood style Gates welcome you and promise you of a Great experience. The Staff is very friendly and helpful with all details on tariff, membership fees, etc.

Entry Fee is Rs.50/- and you need to pay separetely for each of the attractions. Or instead you can pay Rs.750 and enjoy all the attractions inside. Children below 3 years FREE. The Still Camera charge is Rs.100 and Video Camera is Rs.200.

The Front view is stunning and gives a feeling of something of a Grand Palace.
The First attraction is the INNOVATIVE TALKIES. This is a replica of Grand Old Days of Watching Cinema with a village tent environ.

The entry inside the IFC is also good. But sadly, most of the street is empty. Only shop working is Bata. The European Style Buildings is constructed in the style of Rome architecture and attracts attention. So do the pretty marble(?) statues.

Innovative Film City Staff recommend Mirror Maze very highly. And rightly so. Mirror Maze is exciting and worth your penny. Mirror Maze is the BEST attraction in IFC. You are handed even plastic gloves so as not to stain glasses. Once inside, the only source of Light which guides to the Exit are the dimly lit small red lights around the mirrors and the mirror reflections. Very exciting. Stay inside as long as possible to enjoy. The more you stay inside, the more fun it is. Of course, it is a bit challenging to find the exit with those dim right lights. The funny part, you will be meeting your group people again and again. Do hold your kids hand for he may get lost and start crying. Mirror Maze manages to bring the child in you. Mirror Maze is Rs.75 per person.

Ripley's Believe it or Not flatters to decieve. Ripley's Ghost is interesting. Kids will love this especially the revolving Cylinder and the 5 legged Cow. Rs.100.

Aqua Kingdom is an artificial beach with palm trees, etc. WASTE of money. Sure, Bangalore is land locked and we are thirsting for some watery fun. Not only the water is dirty but the loud music only turns you off. Kids may however enjoy. Waves, just for 15-20mins makes YOU too enjoy the beach. The Authorities should consider improving the facilities for changing and shower. Charge of Rs.150 is absolute rip off.

Even kids will be disappointed by Cartoon City. Entrance is FREE but charged Rs.30 for every ride. The Children enjoyed only the Water based Shark Attack. Dashing Car is so-so.

The Better Part of the IFC is the 4D. It costs Rs.100 and is worth watdching. Sadly, the movie lasts under 10 mins.

Miniature City is a waste of money. Kids can create a Better version of the same!!! Very poor models of Airports, Great Wall of China, etc.

Wonder what the Gaint Models of Mobile Phones were doing in this Miniature City. And what was this falls, Niagara Falls???. Too small and insignificant. Rs.50

Tussads Wax Museum is worth. Very few Indian celebrites. And surprisingly, very sparsely crowded. Absolutely Poor quality of models. Compelety avoidable. Rs.75

Go karting is good fun. Rs.150 for 4 Laps.

Dinosaurs Park is good. However the sounds made by Dino could scare little ones. Life size models of Dino make good viewing but sound very unreal. Lots of Greenery and a mini Waterfalls make good viewing. Rs.50

Fossil Museum is a miss me and you will miss nothing. Visit only if the Sun is very hot, for the Museum is Completely Air-Conditioned!!

Haunted House (Rs.100) is truly scary. Too dark and thus anything that pops out will scare you or make you laugh, depending on your view of Horror. Had a good laugh.

The Mini Golf too is enjoyable. After all, how many times you get the opportunity to play the Game.

Cafeteria is okayish. Masala Dosa @ 30 is too costly and too small for that price. Idly @ 20 too is very little. The place can get really crowded during lunchtime with people eating standing too. There is also a MacDonald’s to satisfy the upper crest. There is Coffee Day outlet too.
Parking facility is pathetic. You should park your vehicle in the open outside under the blazing sun and with no security. So, it is no surprise that Parking is FREE.
Outside Food is not allowed inside. However, those come in buses, can avail the facility of FREE drop to the Innovative Film city from the Highway.

Conclusion :
Very expensive though one should visit at least once. Instead of buying a Combo All in One Ticket of Rs.700, you are better off buying tickets for each Attraction separately as you may not have time to enjoy all the attractions and also some attractions may not be attractive enough for you.
Better to finish your Breakfast and then go inside the Film City. Go early to enjoy maximum games. Carry spare clothes.
The Film city is very well maintained expect for some parts. Eatables are available at most of the games area.
If you keep your expectations low, you will enjoy the Innovative Film City.

RAJARAJESHWARI TEMPLE, BANGALORE

Located next to Green Belt, Raja Rajeshwari Nagar get its name from the very famous and very beautiful Temple of i. Sri Jnanakshi Rajarajeshwari.
THE TEMPLE :
The Eye-catching Arch on the Bangalore-Mysore Road highway lures into the interiors and you will love every second of your visit here. The Temple is a magnificent edifice in pure Granite. Built in 1960s, the Temple is an excellent specimen of Dravidian architecture and is Masterpiece among the recent monuments built in Karnataka. The Temple houses 6ft Divine Stone Image of the Holy Mother Sri Jnanakshi Rajarajeshwari.
The Mother is seated on a Throne with her right leg folded and placed across the seat, while her left leg is bent at the knee and stretched below to rest on a Full Bloom Lotus.

TEMPLE HISTORY :

Sri Tiruchi Mahaswami (also known as Shivaratnapuri Swamiji) after undertaking pilgramage to holy places like Kashi, Prayag and attaining highest peace of mind in Mount Kailas, came to Bangalore to see his disciples. Attracted by the environment, He decided to stay in Kenchenahally (present Rajarajeshwari Nagar) and build Sri Kailash Ashrama Mahasamsthana.
TEMPLE STORY:
Early in the morning on 14.1.1960, the auspicious Sankranthi day, Sri Tiruchi Swamiji was proceeding to Mysore by a car for a Pada Pooja, along with two of his disciples. Just at about six miles South West of Bangalore City, he saw above him in the sky, three garudas (sacred eagles) circling. He saw in them the images of Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswathi who had appeared before him on Mount Kailas. Swamiji got down from the car, and saw a footpath leading to a tiny village Kenchenahally. He proceeded and spotted a tiny cottage amidst a grove of guava trees, the spot the eagles kept on encircling. He decided to have his Ashrama there and arranged to purchase the area. This area happens to be the ancient sacred Tap van of Athri Maharishi and Mahasathi Anasuya. The Foundation stone was laid there by Sri Sivaratnapuri Swamiji (later known as Sri Tiruchi Mahaswami) between 5-30a.m. and 6.-15a.m. on 3rd April 1960.

From then onwards, the growth of the Ashram, has been phenomenally rapid. He has built an Ashram complex consisting of numerous building, established a Pathashala for Vedic and Aagamic studies, free school for academic education, branch Maths in several places, and most important of all, constructed the temple at the present spot which was divinely ordained.
In 1978, the Rajarajeshwari Temple was dedicated.

On the 27th of March every year at sunrise, the rays of the sun fall directly, on the Devi's forehead and travel down to her feet. This was not planned, but it happens that way. The temple is attracting more and more devotees everyday; and special mention should be made of the Navarathri Celebrations and Brahmotsavam, during which Chandi Homa is performed everyday and priests are specially recruited to recite the Vedas and the Saptashati.
Inside the Temple Comples is the New Sri Chakra shrine.

Jayendra Puri Swami who is fluent in all the South Indian languages as well as German and Italian, succeded Sri Tiruchi Mahaswami, who attained Mahasamadhi on Jan 14, 2005.

There is heavy rush of devotees on all days especially on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The Navarathri Festival is celebrated in great pomp and grandeur and Free Food is offered to all Devotees who visit the Temple.

The Temple runs a Veda Pathashala in its premises.

OTHER ATTRACTIONS :
Omkar Hills, supposed to be the highest point in Bangalore is just a 5 min drive from the Temple and offers panoramic views of Bangalore. Sridhar Gudda, Big Banyan Tree, Manchanbele Dam are all easily accessible from here.

The Temple is located about 8km from the Bangalore City Railway Station and Bus Stand.

NANJUNGUD - DAKSHIN KASHI

NANJUNGUD - PREMIER PILGRIMAGE CENTRE

Famous for the massive Srikanteshwara Temple, Nanjungud is also known as Dakshina Kashi. Nanjangud literally translates to "the residing place of Lord Nanjundeshwara"
Origin of Name :
Nanju means poison, Eshwara means Lord Shiva. Nanjundeshwara means the God who drank poison. During the Great Churning Of Ocean, Pioson emaneted from the Sea, the Supreme Lord showing his love and compassion swallowed the Poison and the sacred spot earlier known as Garalapuri is now famous as NANJUNGUD. And the lord came to be known as SRIKANTESHWARA (meaning the One with Poison in his throat). NANJUNGUD means the place where Lord resides.

STORIES AND GREATNESS OF NANJUNGUD :
1. LORD SHIVA SWALLOWING POISON.
This story is already known to many. Many believe that this is the sacred spot where the after Lord Shiva swallowed poison, his wife Devi Parvati held his throat tightly to prevent poison from going further down.
2. MOTHER LAKSHMI'S MARRIAGE WITH LORD VISHNU
After the Poison episode, Lakshmi emerged from the churning of the Ocean, desired to marry Lord Vishnu. Her father advised her to go to Galapuri (Nanjungud) and do penace propitiating Lord Srikanteshwara. Her penace pleased Lord Shiva, who then solemnized her marriage with Lord Vishnu. Thus Lord Shive ensures the fulfillment of desires of devotees who offer pooja with true faith and devotion.
3. DEMON KESI BURNT TO ASHES HERE
Demon Kesi who cunningly drank Nectar from Mohini (Lord Vishnu in woman form) tried to destroy an yagna being conducted by Lord Brahma on the sangam of Kapila and Koundini river, then Lord Shiva hurled Demon Kesi into the Yagna kunda and swallowed the ashes of the Demon. Lord Shiva too had to undergo suffering for a while for swallowing the dreaded ashes. Thus, Lord Shiva relives Physical suffering of those who come and pray with true devotion and serve him with dedication.
4. ALSO KNOWN AS PARASHURAMA KSHETRA
It is said that Parashurama cleansed himself from the sin of beheading his mother on the sangam of Kapila and Kaundinya river where Suvarnavathy rivulet also joins these two rivers here.
Lord Shiva was said to be immensely happy with Parashurama's penace and gave blessings that those who visit Nanjangud should definitely visit Parashurama temple to complete their piligrimage effectively and fruitfully.
It is believed that anyone who lets Jaggery block and Crystal salt dissolve in Suvarnavathy river in front of Parushurama Temple, all ill-effects and sins committed by them will be solved slowly and permanently just as the way Jaggery and Salt dissolve in water. This is believed to be so because Lord Parashurama himself cleansed his sin of beheading his mother, which can be considered as the most punishable act.

5. LORD YAMA'S DILEMMA SOLVED
Due to immense power of Nanjundeshwara, people were freed from sins and directly went to Swarga leaving Yama jobless. So, on Narada's advise, he requested Kalipurusha not to enter Nanjungud and thus he could continue to perform his duties.
Lord Srikanteshwara of Nanjungud thus relieves his devotees from physical ailments during Lifetime and Releases them from the vicisious cycle of Death and Rebirth.

6. TIPU SULTAN'S FAITH IN THE LORD :
Mysore King Tipu Sultan's beloved elephant had an eye ailment and inspite of innumerable medical treatment, the eye disease was not cured. Tipu sultan was advised to pray to Lord Srikanteshwara and Tipu sultandecided to give it a try.
For 48 days the Elephant was made to bath in the Kapila River and prayers with Abhisheka and Archana was conducted. To everyone's pleasant surprise, the eyesight of the elephant got recovered and Lord Nanjundeshwara was called as "Hakim Nanjundeshwara" by Tippu Sultan. Tippu Sultan then donated a Shiva Lingam made of jade (precious green stone) along with an emerald necklace to the temple.
Hakim means doctor, Lord Nanjundeshwara is also called as "Vaidya Nanjundeshwara" and is a healer for his devotees suffering.

HISTORY
Though its origin is lost in history, Nanjungud has been A major Shaiva centre since time immemorial. There is evidence to show that Nanjungud has been in existence for at least 1000 years. Nanjangud is associated with the legendary Rishi Gautama who is reckoned to have stayed here and consecrated the Linga.

WHAT TO SEE

SRIKANTESHWARA TEMPLE:-
The main temple has the architectural stamp of various dynasties that ruled the region. The sanctum sanctorum is attributed to the Ganga period and the mantapa to the Hoysalas and is dated back to the 13th century A.D.

The Srikanteshwara Temple is reckoned to be one of the largest temple complexes in the Karnataka. The temple complex is an object of architectural curiosity. It reflects various styles from the period of the Gangas to the Vijayanagar rulers, the Hoysalas, and the Wadiyars.
Art historians point out that the mantapa in front of the original shrine was a 13th Century contribution as it reflected the Hoysala style of architecture, while an inscription on a slab near the shrine of Vishnu dated from 1517 indicates that it was donated by the father-in-law of Krishnadevaraya of the Vijayanagar dynasty.
The outer prakara is 385-foot long and 160-foot broad and has an area of over 50,000 square feet. The western main gopura(built by Krishna Raja Wodeyar in 1845) is 120-foot high. The 9 storey Tower boasts of tucco images, decorations, 7 gold kalashas each 3 meters tall exhibiting the Dravidian architecture.
There are more than 200 deities inside the temple including 66 Idols of shaiva saints called as Nayamnars and 100 different kinds and sizes of Shiva Linga of which Sahasra Linga is very charming.
The Temple also has deities of Mother Parvathi, Lord Vishnu with his consorts, the Navagrahas, Ganesh, Subramanya, Sharada Devi, and a Big Nandi.
The Outer parapet boasts of Huge Variety of Ganesh Murthis.
COMMENT : The huge Temple is very beautiful. Renovations and building of Amenities near the Temple has made the Temple look more beautiful. A must see. Avoid visiting on Mondays, as the Temple is very very crowded.

The Temple's Chariot (carved out of wood) Festival known as Dodda Jathre and chikka Jathre is very colourful and is very crowded. During these Jathres, the temple is illuminated and cultural programmes are held and Theppotsava (Floating Festival) is also conducted. During the Jathre, 5 Chariots are used. the Main chariot, Gautama Ratha measures more than 100 feet and weights at least 200 tonnes and is the cynosure of all eyes

SRI RAGHAVENDRA SWAMY MUTT
Guru Raghavendra Swamy's idol is said to be uncreated and self evolved. This idol was found in the River Cauvery at Srirangapatna by a Dhobi who passed it to the Sri Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar, the then Maharaja of Mysore, who then installed in the Mutt at Nanjungud, the holy town of Sri Srikanteshwara by Sri Sugananendratheertha, then then pintiff of Sri Raghavendraswamy Mutt, as ordained through their dreams by Sri Raghavendra Swamiji.
What is striking is that the Nanjungud Raghavendra Swamy shrine is a stone deity unlike the usual Brindivana Sannidhi (tomb shaped ) of Raghavendraswamy Mutts.
The Mutt premises was earlier known as Deewan Poornaiah's Chatra. The deity of Anjaneya beside the Raghavendrswamy shrine of Nanjungud Mutt was installed during Poornaiah's Deewangiri governorship.
In the Tapovan located near the Mutt there are Pancha Brindavana (tombs) of Mantralaya Mutt seers who follow the monastic tradition of Dwaitha Siddanta.

PARASHURAMA TEMPLE
The Place where Sage Parashurama cleansed himself from the sin of beheading his mother is a temple of Parashurama built in Mysore style. The place also has shrines of Lord Hanuman.

SWAMI AYYAPPA TEMPLE
A modern temple built to help Swami Ayyappa Devotees rest enroute to Sabarimala. Swami Ayappa Temple is good attempt at replicating Sabarimala to the point of cloning 18 steps.

KAPILA RIVER

Kapila River is a tributary of Cauvery. Surprisingly the River is never dry even in Summer. On the banks of the river, Tonsoring of Devotees Heads is done.

Nanjangud is famous for the Ayurveda medicines manufactured by the Late Sri. B.V.Pandit. The Sadvaidyashala established by him serves people very successfully. Ayurvedic medicenes produced here are marketed all over India. In earlier times (1950-70) a tooth powder brand made locally called 'Nanjangud Hallupudi' was also very famous all over Karnataka.

Nanjangud is a home to many industries because of its close proximity to Mysore and hosts such big names as TVS, Nestle, Reid & Taylor, etc.

NANJUNGUD BANANA

Nanjungud is also very famous for a special type of Banana called Nanjungud RasaBale Hannu.

It has even been patented. The "Nanjangud rasabale" which has unique characteristics, is identified by its distinct aroma when it ripens fully. A major characteristic of the fruit is its long shelf life, as it survives for around a fortnight after its starts ripening. The peculiarity of "Nanjangud rasabale" is that one branch contains 25-30 bananas.
